Containers can get damaged on any step of the logistical process: this is the unfortunate reality of all container-related operations and it is a part of the business. The consequent settling of a repair claim can then often become a quite tiresome and time-consuming process.
To simplify and speed up this process on the xChange platform we have developed a product that helps you deal with settling of the damage costs in a couple of clicks.
The Damage Settlement Process is defined in the BIMCO multiparty agreement and the further summarised in the Damage Settlement T&C. The process differs for standard and premium-insured units. You can find the differences explained, following the respective links.
- Opening Damage Claims
In order to start the damage process, you can either use the "Report Damages" button in the upper left corner of the deal page or simply email your estimates of repair and pictures to conops@container-xchange.com.
If you have Premium Insurance, please, provide depot information with photos and EORs.

- Damage Protection Levels
Once initiated the procedure differs based on the agreed protection level. Overall, on xChange, there are 3 main settings to manage repair costs between USER and SUPPLIER:
Damage Protection Plan (DPP), Basic Insurance and Premium insurance.
Implementing those setting in a deal greatly simplifies the damage claim process and are highly recommended.
